So, similarly to what happened with my Yellow Roses painting, I have started two Cucumber Flower paintings, the first was cut-up in an experimental attempt to resolve the compositional problems, but that didn’t work out and was abandoned! The second painting I have overworked (especially the background) and I am still dissatisfied with both the composition and the colours.
Here are visual snapshots of my struggles…
CUCUMBER FLOWER PAINTING #1
Happily abandoned painting #1 – the composition is all wrong!
CUCUMBER FLOWER PAINTING #2
Having gone through all my photos (I did just give you a snapshot here!) I can see how I have overworked areas and let my frustrations make me make impulsive decisions with the second painting – not always for the best! There are areas of the second Cucumber Flower painting, at each stage, that I am happy with…it has been many, many hours of work so I’m going to have a think about whether I can salvage it and resolve the problems…
Once completed, sales of Limited Edition Fine Art Giclée Prints of my Cucumber Flower painting are going to support May Project Gardens – a community permaculture garden in Morden, South London that works with marginalised urban communities, to address poverty, disempowerment and access to resources and influence. I met the CEO and co-founder of May Project Gardens, Ian Solomon Kawall (KMT), when I attended the Ethical Consumer Conference in October 2019. I was very impressed with the work that Ian and the team were doing at the small community garden in South London and in the intervening years the organisation has grown from strength to strength, including the award-winning Hip Hop Garden Programme, Come We Grow nature and music events, and the Natural City Living (NCL) community garden programme.
